INSTRUCTIONS
Module Synopsis
Visual Effects with Computer Graphic Imagery (CGI) is prevalent in most blockbuster movies and the craft of matte painting has been used as set extensions to supplement CGI elements in creating the illusion of an environment where budget and time constraints may not allow for full CGI implementation, real sets to be constructed or even filming at the actual locations. Students in this module will attain mastery in photo manipulation, day to night, summer to winter, clean up or set extensions creation. Sketching, composition, chiaroscuro, focal points, figure ground relationships, perspective and colour theory knowledge and skill will also be learned, combining traditional and digital tools. The module prepares students for the movie production industry to create highly convincing cinematic panoramas with mastery over digital painting and composition skills for scenes and shots. Students will learn various techniques in using drawing, painting and photography to construct 2.5D or 3D scenes in realizing story worlds that are convincing and believable to the audience. A project-based learning method will be adopted with a balance of foundational education and software-based technical training that emphasizes on extensive and in-depth skill development relevant to the demands of the industry. The assessment approach involves Continuous Assessment which includes Exercises and Projects that are prescribed throughout the semester while the Final Assessment is a Final Project and Portfolio submission which takes place at the end of the semester.
