LECTURES

Typo_0_Introduction

Mr Vinod give a brief introduction to Typography module as it is the fundamental set skills that you develop in this module that is applicable to all different that you go into and also your life as a designer. And also explain that Typography are deemed the act of creating letters such as the geometrical shape of the letters to put it simply that typography is the creation typefaces or type families, animation, visible in website designs, apps, signage design, bottle labels and many more can be found in real life.

Typo_1_Development

The Mr Vinod note that the Typography information presented is written from the perspective of western world that tends to ignorantly or conveniently overlook inventions and innovations and also it is important to contribute to an larger body of knowledge out there from the perspective of your culture as it is important to student who is doing their research methodology as well as doing design dissertation to research on local content or content that comes from your community or some other community that is marginalized, nation civilization.

Typo_2_Basic

The basic in typography is that describing the letter form as with any other craft that has evolved over a 500 years, typography employs a number of technical term that these mostly describe specific parts of the letter form. It is a good idea for us to be familiarize ourself with lexicon that is another word for terminologies, so knowing a letterform's component parts make it much easier to identify type specific typefaces. There are three thing that describe the letterforms that is the Baseline, Median and the X-height where first is the baseline that is the imaginary line dividual the visual base of the letter forms, second is the median line is the imaginary line defining the X-height of the letterforms and finally whereas the X-height is the hide in any type face of the lowercase to be specific the X-height is the middle section of the median and also the baseline where above that is the cap height as well as the ascender height and finally where below the baseline is the descender height.

Typo_5_Understanding

The uppercase of the letter forms below the suggest symmetry, but in reality it is not symmetrical even though it is easy to see the different stroke weights of the baseline stroke that forms below, more noteworthy is that the fact the each bracket connecting the serif to the stem has a unique arc where the circle that can be seen below at the bottom that show the different arcs in the brackets that is attached to the diagnosed stems. There many letter forms that may look symmetrical and the same with one another, but there is small differences in the letterforms such as the arc, stroke width, bowls and many other small differences that make each letter font type unique.

Task 1: Exercise - Type Expression

Type Expression where we are asked to choose the 4 word to compose and express itself without using any too much graphical drawing to express the meaning of the word. First sketches are drawn at the advice of the lecturer, so that we have an idea of how we would compose and express the word that we choose.

Task 1: Exercise - Type Expression Animation

Type Expression animation where at on Week 3 after getting feedback for our type expression Mr Vinod started to taught us about type expression animation using Adobe photoshop timeline to do it and start to animate one of our chosen words. The words that I choose to animate are the word rain as I belive myself to a great understanding of it and how should animate it.

Task 1: Exercise - Text Format

The exercise we are given is text format where we were all given a text called 'I am Helvetica' to edit using Adobe Indesign to have proper letter spacing, paragraph spacing, leading, good headline and byline and also good layout. Mr Vinod did provide us lecture video that can be found at Mytimes where the method of how to used the InDesign to edit the text.

Feedback:

WEEK 2 General Feedback:

When sketching out ideas for type do not use the actual fonts, instead draw it out. Avoid using too much graphical elements in our type expression to prevent the distortion of the word, but that logical graphical elements or distortion are accepted and relied only on the word to represent the meaning such enlarging an letter or make it smaller as well as the word must not deformed too much away from original.

WEEK 3 General Feedback:

Make use of the whole space and choose the right font also don't distort the letters too much.

Personal Feedback:

The first rain expression design is great, but letter crush where the crush letter that is put between the large H word the letter h should be remove and to catch up on the e-portfolio focus on the easier then move on the hard part.

WEEK 4 General Feedback:

It would be best make the last frame of the GIF stationary by pausing at the end of the frame in timeline to give the last frame a couple of second to make the GIF smoother.

WEEK 5 General Feedback:

The line length should should exceed the maximum 49 sentences and leave enough to allow you self play around the text formatting and also the text paragraph should divided into column to allow the people to read it more easily, put the paragraph spacing between text body and pictures as well as using images that does not look part of the layout.

Reflection:

Experience
The lecture that given in class where straight forward and easy to comprehend, although there are time I can't to keep up pace with the lecture. The information that given out each lecture was a lot sometime where I have to ask one of my classmate for help and watching the lecture video to understand.

Observation
I observed that I learned how to digitize my design sketches that I have made using the Adobe apps and slowly learning how to utilize the design apps that provide to me to create amazing design work as well as starting to take important note of the lecture in order to keep up and comprehend the lessons that given in class.

Findings
Throughout the week I have learned a lot about Typography module deepening my knowledge on adobe illustrator grasping the basic through doing exercise, project and lecturer. The work are sometime very stressful, which I manage to to keep calm and finish the work that is given to us due to me regularly ask my classmate for advice and also help with my work where their are kind enough to do as well as watching the lecturer video to understand how to digitize my design sketches.

Another finding that I found is that the digitize sketches of my work is improving as I am slowly families myself with Adobe apps design where as before I would be struggling to digitize my design sketches as I am not good with using electronics devices, but slowly I believe I am getting an hand of it thanks to the lecture video is provided to me.

I must take important point down in my note to document my progression as my second nature, so that I will not struggles in keeping up with e-portfolio.
